Yes this use is correct here "le monde" is used in many expressions to translate "people", so you can say:
Tout le monde = All the people / Everyone
Beaucoup de monde = A lot of people
Peu de monde = Few people
The closest translation for Everyone is Tout le monde, it's a set expressoin.
However for the other expressions, it could also translate as "les gens":
Beaucoup de gens = A lot of people
Peu de gens = Few people
The word "personnes" would not sound as natural here, because it's mostly used to speak of specific people or to give a number of people, and not that much when speaking about people in general.
