In most cases the passé composé is not separated, but generally when you have an Adverb, like Tous (or Aussi, Déjà, Toujours, Bien, Jamais etc etc) it goes between auxiliary and past participle.
Same thing with your example from Session 4: beaucoup is an Adverb (word describing a verb) so in the passé composé it goes between auxiliary and past participle.
