No problema. A teacher I am not! You are not being slow! Object prns can be confusing.
Adding to the confusion is usage customs. La, le? The pronoun itself is not the determiner on if it's a IO or DO. Your help is directed TO her making her an IO. That said, I wouldn't bet my life on that being correct :)
Me - to me
Te - to you (informal)
Le - to him, to her, to it
Nos - to us
Les - to them
It's interesting that your teacher says the PROPER usage is ayudarla. I'm going to check with a couple of Spanish teachers for their take. I'll post their answers here. Should be interesting. One lives in Spain, the other person is from Peru.
