I think this is another phrase that doesn't translate word for word from English to Italian. "(Essere) andato/a" means to have been or gone "somewhere or to some place" and I think in Italian it is the preferred way of saying it. My understanding is that "Sono andato in Italia" can mean "I have been to Italy, I have gone to Italy, I have been in Italy, I was in Italy etc." I think it's one of those phrases that can be said in different ways, but using "(essere) andato/a" is preferred. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Anna, I felt just as you did that the answer should have been: "E tu sei gia' stat la'?" Which would imply Have you been there. I did bring this up to Fluenz as well. It may be a fine point but I think that's sharp on your part to notice the difference.

Dear Anna, both "andare" and "stare" are correct, although "andare" is more frequently used. And the meanings are exactly as you said. Sorry about the options not being at the program at the time you bought it, but I'm happy to say that this has been fixed. You can download the latest update at: www.fluenz.com/updates , and this should allow you to input both "stata" and "andata" as the correct conjugated verb forms. Thanks for your thorough comments, and sorry for not having let you know of the most updated version before. Keep up your dedication in learning Italian! In bocca al lupo!

I wish I had read this before I did the exercise! I had the same issue with this. Thanks for clarifying it. I haven't used the updats because Apple makes it so difficult (and yes, I am an "oldster"!)
