OK--- I know these are simple questions, but surely someone has an opinion.
Also; now that I'm getting into level 2, a new thought has arisen regarding "THAT". Is Sonia attempting to differentiate the translation of "THAT" as in 'THAT ONE", from the english use of "that' in a phrase such as: -I know THAT you can do it- or - I hope THAT I explained myself clearly-. I ask this because I've seen the word "CHE" translated as -THAT- . Does the italian use separate words for these situations whereas in english we use the word "that" in many contexts?

I'm used to hearing and saying "grat-si-ay"... we say grazie so fast that sometimes I don't even realize I have an "ay" sound but it's there.

I agree with Vincenzo, I think the "ay" sound at the end is there, but in many cases is spoken so quickly that it might sound as if it was omitted. As for "that", yes, I think you have it right. "That" as in "You have that right" (che) is different than "I would like that one" (quello)...it kind of becomes second nature after a while.

Thanks for your responses. I know I sometimes over-think these things but it helps to know I'm on the right track. :)
