I would say this is very normal at this stage of your learning. What you are describing is the ability to think in French, and that comes with practice. For example you probably no longer have to translate "Je" or "vous" because you have already used those words a lot so they start to come automatically in your mind.
And indicator that you are going to fast would be in the case of not being able to remember words at all, or having to spend a minute or so thinking about it before the translation comes to you. That said, you do want to spend sufficient time on each lesson. I have always done each lesson at least two times. I would say if you do a lesson once and then you can do the flash cards for that lesson without getting any wrong, then you might go onto the next lesson, but I would recommend spending more time with each lesson than once.

Thanks for the reply Mike. Right, a good deal of the material comes very quickly without translation. I think I'll identify some of areas that need further drilling and do some Anki cards, especially the verbs, in addition to the lessons, pod casts and audio. I think if I improve my recognition of the verbs, internalize them all, it will probably improve immediate comprehension. The pause to think, was that nous sommes ou nous allons, is probably hurting me more than anything right now. I guess like Sonia says, as much repetition as possible is needed.
