Answer Question
Understanding versus translating
Hello everyone. I have just completed level 1, lesson 19. At this time, I'm still having to translate most of the sentences and phrases to English to comprehend them. This is the case, especially if it is in question form using est-ce que. I am able to do so fairly rapidly, but there is a pause most of the time when I need to translate. This also happens sometimes with verb forms, for example ils sont versus ils vont.
I suspect with time I will be able to just read or listen and intuitively understand the meaning, but for now, I'm translating. Is this fairly common at this level? Could this be an indication that I'm moving too fast? I do the flashcards and sometimes repeat lessons. Your responses and experiences would be appreciated.
