Awesome video tour of Paris and great blog about your trip too. It looks like you had a really good time. I hope you make one for your trip in 2015 to Lyon. I look forward to it.
Thanks for posting. Bonne continuation!
Cheers,
Andy

Your French sounds pretty good, I'm not surprised that you had a good interaction with locals. It is true that Parisians wil ignore you if you don't even try to say "Bonjour" and only speak english, but as soon as you try a bit of French they will usually be much more friendly.

@Fabrice: I'm sure I saw the blueish building at some point, and I definitely saw the college by Luxembourg. In fact I was impressed at how many students would come right to the Gardens after school. They'd just sit in big circles and talk -- sometimes for hours -- like even they appreciated the opportunity to relax in such a beautiful place. And you're right, Parisians warmed up quickly even with my basic French. They didn't ignore me and the vast majority were pleasant! The tourists, on the other hand... :)

If you've been perfecting your accent all this time, and if you speak confidently, people *might* think you're French at first and launch into super-fast dialogue, which might send you scrambling for a way to shut off the firehose. I'm betting you'll have ups and downs the first few weeks but then you'll find your cadence and confidence. After that, you'll be able to manage and negotiate parts of a conversation quite well. You'll be just fine, especially over such a long trip. Have a fantastic time, and if you're in Lyon in May or June we just might cross paths!
