Answer Question
French pronunciation if next word begins with vowel
I was under the impression that if the next word of a sentence starts with a vowel, then you pronounce the ending of the word before it.
For instance, you would pronounce the "d" in quand if the next word is est.
Or you would pronounce the "s" in des if the next word was allemands.
But, it seems like sometimes this is not the case. For instance, in je suis allé; it doesn't seem to me like people in the program seem to pronounce the "s" in suis.
I guess my question is why is the ending of the prior word pronounced in some instances where the next word is a vowel, but not in other instances?
Thanks!
