Answer Question
Question regarding French capitalization rules
I'm presently working in French Upgraded, Level 2, Lesson 6. In the course of the lesson, we're introduced to three locations: (1) le musée d’Orsay ; (2) la cathédrale de Notre Dame ; and (3) le Stade de France.
In English we would have capitalized the "m" in museum and the "c" in cathedral. I see that in French we don't do so. Why, then, is the "s" in Stade de France capitalized? What distinguishes Stade de France from musée d’Orsay or cathédrale de Notre Dame? In what sense is a Stadium ranked more important than a museum or cathedral?
Please explain the rule that governs this usage. Thank you so much.
