Answer Question
La Bella Lingua: the origin and beauty of the Italian language
I might get some disagreement from students of French, but I'll go out on a limb and say that Italian is the world's most beautiful language -- with its rolling R's, its emphasis on vowel endings, its passionate gestures and shrugs, and most of all, the places, foods, and experiences just hearing the language evokes.
With that in mind, I purchased Dianne Hales' ambitious book "La Bella Lingua: My Love Affair with Italian, the World's Most Enchanting Language." Ms. Hales manages to not only give voice to her deep feelings for the language in oftentimes lyrical, sweet and humorous ways, she accomplishes all this in the context of describing the Italian language's origins, how it evolved over the centuries, and how it's used today -- all while expressing her appreciation for all things Italian.
There's a lot to love about this book, and about her writing in general. And no matter where you are in your journey to learn Italian, there's so much to learn from "La Bella Lingua."
