Answer Question
ser vs estar when talking about something being easy or difficult from Spanish 1 Session 12.
Ok, so everything is going smoothly for me right now, except I just can't get over this issue. I understand that ser is used for innate qualities or possession. However, when saying something is easy or difficult we are supposed to use ser. This doesn't make sense to me for these reasons:
Using the example el espanol es dificil. (Spanish is difficult)....
1. It is subjective - it may be easy for me, but not easy for you. So I must assume that innate qualities are what I personally think are innate. What if I speak better spanish than my friend. I wouldn't think I would say His spanish is not good - su . Because it may not be good now, but it may get better. The condition might change.
2. What if I am talking about a school class and I say the class is difficult. It may get easier after studying, so I don't see how this would be considered an innate quality.
Maybe I'm thinking about it too much, but some further discussion on this would be greatly appreciated.
Love the software by the way, and I tell all my friends about it. I was never able to speak, comprehend or write in Spanish using Rosetta Stone as I am able to with Fluenz. I learned colors and some vocabulary with RS, but that is about it. Thank you Sonia and all the Fluenz community!
