Answer Question
C'est vs Il est
Could someone please provide the rules when to use c'est as against when to use il est/ elle est.
What I can figure out is that :
C'est is used
1. For days of a week (c'est Lundi)
2. When there is a noun in the sentance except when the noun does not have an article.
c'est un médicin or c'est une pomme or c'est John
but Il est médicin(since there is no article before médicin like un or le)
3. Before pronoun c'est moi, c'est la notre, c'est toi
4. Before an adjective -When c'est is used, the phrase takes on a wider meaning. The pronoun ce represents the entire class of an object, while the pronoun il/elle normally represents an object in particular.
Ils nous ont servi du roblochon. .. They served us roblochon cheese..
..C'est très fort. In general this cheese is very strong.
..Il est très fort. This particular serving of cheese was very strong.
Il est / Elle est is used
1. For time and weather
2. Exception to item 2 and 4 given above.
What I wanted to know if what I have stated above is correct, and if I have missed something out ????
