Answer Question
Italy Summer 2012 - Ideas sought
Hello fellow learners!
I am very excited because we have just made plans for an extended trip to Italy next Summer. We will travel with our boys (who will be 4 and 8 then) and our italian au pair. The plan is for 8 weeks. We will arrive in mid June and stay through mid August. I want to take a 3+ week intensive language class while we're there and perhaps even some classes for my kids. Our thought is to rent an apartment in Rome and take side trips from there. My husband's family is from both Sardegna and Calabria so we want to see those places for sure.
Any advice from this gang on:
-Airlines/flights (my current best pick is Alitalia's NY-Rome nonstop in their "economy plus" type section)?
-Renting apartments tips or resources?
-Ideas for best stuff to do with kids (last time I was there was pre-children)?
-Language schools?
-Car rentals - if we do stay in Rome we won't have a car most of the time but anticipate occasional 2-3 excursions by car
-Travel guides to read? The last time I traveled overseas for pleasure it was pre-internet proliferation. What's the best way to get the skinny now?
Ok, I appreciate any and all help.
-Dana
