Answer Question
Italian I: Is the grammar taught correct?
In a lesson in Italian I, we are told that "This is nine Euro and that seven" is translated "Questo sono nove euro e quello sette." That grammatical construction is repeated several times during the lesson, but as far as I can tell (looking at various websites for Italian translations from English) it is incorrect. The word "Questo" is singular and should have a singular verb, like è. That's certainly the way it is in English.
I really don't want to learn my Italian incorrectly, so can anyone tell me whether, in fact, this construction ("Questo sono...") is correct or, as I suspect, incorrect, even with a plural complement?
Thanks.
