Answer Question
Studying abroad in China...
I was selected as a finalist for a full scholarship to study abroad in China this summer for 6 weeks! I literally got the email a few hours ago - I applied way back in November!
I’m going through the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y), a presidential initiative that prepares American high schoolers to become leaders in a global world through language acquisition. The program is funded by the US Department of State, I was selected by a committee at American Councils, and am being sent with AFS!
I'm going to continue my Mandarin studies with Fluenz to prepare me for the program. In China, I will be living with a host family (that will likely not speak English), participate in 4 hours of language class everyday, and teach Chinese elementary students English! I'm so excited, and I guess it will put my Fluenz-taught skills to the test while I'm there! :D
