Answer Question
Apostrophe in Italian
I'm getting a bit confused as to when and why apostrophes are used and was wondering if at the point i am at Italian 1 session 26 are there rules that have been in the program that i haven't picked up on as it seems a bit inconsistent.
i.e
una amica becomes un' amica, thats fine and understandable because one letter "a" follows another but sua amica remains sua amica
dove `e becomes dov' `e again one letter "e" follows another but then i see quale `e becomes just qual `e
So i just wondered if there was something im not getting as i don't see the point in going forward if i'm missing something fundamental i'd probably be better going back and looking for it in earlier lessons.
