Answer Question
FRUSTRATED!!!
I have really been enjoying studying Fluenz Italian. I have been through Italian 1 and 2 and recently started Italian 3. I was disappointed to see that Sonia Gil was not teaching this course. I started Italian 3 and was SO DISAPPOINTED in the new teacher's style of teaching. She seems to assume that you do not have to have things explained. Sonia was an ABSOLUTE GENIUS at making even difficult concepts so easy, especially for people who have had problems learning languages before. I've tried many different methods including Rosetta Stone, which I found to be a confusing mess, for the reason that they DIDN'T EXPLAIN THINGS! Now, I'm on Lesson 3 of Italian 3 and was shocked to find that at one particularly challenging part of the lesson, she merely pointed to 3 different GRAPHS and told us to memorize them! What?? No explanation at all of when and why we are supposed to use words, "quel' quei, quegli, and many others. It is very confusing and discouraging and something Sonia NEVER DID. She always completely explained why, when and where we used new terms and she made me (after trying about 6 different Italian learning methods), finally start to get a basic grasp of how Italian works. It was so wonderful I immediately started recommending Fluenz over Rosetta Stone to others who also wanted to learn Italian! Is there anyone at Fluenz that can help with the confusion? I really feel that not only was Ms. Gil a genius at languages (she taught herself Mandarin!) but she also understands how fellow English speakers look at language and has the very rare gift of "putting herself in our place" and breaking it down in a very simple, non stressful manner. Would it be possible to add explanations, (perhaps on this website as part of the LEARNING TOOLS) of some of these difficult concepts that the new teacher glosses over? (For a person who has a natural gift for learning languages, or who has a background in Italian, I'm sure her methods suffice, but for those of us who have extreme difficulty learning a language this help would be greatly appreciated!) Would it be possible for SONIA herself to explain some of these difficult concepts such as when to use words such as, "quel", "quei" "quegli" etc. on this website? It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for listening!
