Answer Question

I'm half way through French 1, I'm a bit confused as to why some of the basic phrases are taught differently in Fluenz? I've come across a few phrases that I previously learnt at college a different way (I won't list them all!).
For example, "d'ou est-ce que vous etes?" is supposed to mean Where are you from? Whereas I was taught "ou etes-vous?" etc
If I'm honest, I am feeling slightly disheartened - some reassurance might motivate me to carry on. I've put a few things I've learnt from Fluenz into Google Translate and they're not understandable at all.
Thanks in advance,
Jamie
