First I would like to start with praise of a worthy study aid. I am currently simultaneously learning French and Spanish. Over the last 6 months I have used Rosetta Stone, Pimsleur, Michel Thomas, and Fluenz. I have enjoyed the unique perspective your program has to offer. I especially enjoy the flash cards. I plan on completing 1-5 in both languages over the next 9 months. I would like to offer suggestion that would make the learning experience better for me. If you chose to ignore everything that follows, I would still recommend your program.
General: Your competitor uses smaller components with clear markers to let me know what is completed. I reviewed a lesson then failed to remember which lesson I was on when returning the next day. It would be an unnecessary frustration if all completed steps were given a mark of completion. Also I would like a menu to jump to particular exercises within a session. This would help me with difficulties requiring repetition.
General: I would prefer if I just started one program instead of installing 5 per language. The extra icons on the desktop clutter my desktop. If it is possible I would love to have all levels and languages in one program. Your competitor has had more time to develop the core infrastructure but they do an excellent job with data management.
General: I use a 17" laptop set to a resolution of 1600 x 900. The program is very small. I cannot resize my screen because it would rearrange my desktop. I work in graphic design and cannot leave it at the smaller resolution and effectively do my job. The program resolution of 1024 is relatively uncommon now. Having it resize as other programs do would be much more satisfying.
General: When the program is running it takes up the entire screen with a black screen I often try to fit in lessons when I have breaks and down time between clients/jobs. If I cannot see the clock on my computer or instant messenger, I have to continually interrupt the program to see if I have been contacted. For the student, locking them out may keep them focused. For someone fitting in 15 minutes, the black screen is very inconvenient and time consuming.
Writing: A nice feature of your competitor is during writing sessions when the answer is incorrect the cursor highlights the first mistake in the phrase. When looking for a mistake in a long phrase, I have often spent time switching the accents around from left to right. By the time I get the correct answer, I cannot remember what the final answer was.
Choose the best image (Exercise): It would be convenient if each image could be chosen with one click, immediately progressing to the next image. Currently each question requires a click on the image and a second on the Next Button. I use the program when traveling. The mouse on standard laptops is not conducive to speed. One click would be much more efficient. The second click is not necessary.
For Advanced conversations: It would be nice to do the conversation twice once as the first person and again as the second person. It would seem to flow more naturally. I am left wanting to do both parts.
