Answer Question
word choice and order
One of the exercises asks us to write: Her office is on the last floor of that building. I have two questions relating to this phrase I'm hoping people can help me with. The correct answer is: Son bureau est au dernier étage de ce bâtiment. First, why is dernier before étage? Last week would be la semaine dernière, so I'm struggling to understand when words like dernier, prochain, and the like go before versus after the noun they are modifying. I have read the french.about.com lesson the topic, but am still not getting it very well. Second, why is "on" getting translated as "au" in this context? Why not dans or sur?
