Answer Question
Reflexive verbs with Modal Verbs
I'm confused about something in Session 5, Level 4: Sophia says: "When modal verbs precede a reflexive infinitive with the pronoun attached, they take Avere as an auxiliary". The example provided was: Ho dovuto alzarmi presto questa mattina. I completely understand that. However, she next explains: "But if the reflexive verb is conjugated and the pronoun precedes the modal verb, they take the auxiliary Essere." The example she gives is: Mi sono dovuta alzare presto questa mattina. My confusion here is that in this example, the reflexive verb is not conjugated. Is there an easier explanation? I don't get it. Thanks.
