Answer Question
brain processing of languages
This is probably a silly question, and I have no idea where to put it, but here goes... I recently started the Spanish course and I'm really enjoying it, but I'm finding that it's triggering recall of other languages I studied in my distant past! I learned some French in grade school, Latin in High School and German in college. I was never proficient at any of them and haven't used them in decades. All of a sudden, it's like I've reactivated the "language center" in my brain and all this stuff is coming back into consciousness! When I'm trying to recall a word in Spanish, the German or French word keeps popping up in my brain! the Latin is more useful, because it often provides the root for the word in Spanish. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this phenomenon. For those who are actually proficient in multiple languages, do you find yourself mixing up words or sentence structure in one language as a result of the other languages?
