Answer Question
How to tell difference between I have to eat and I ate
I'm starting into the first few episode of Fluenz 2 and past tense verb, yuck! Now to read 'I ate' seems simple 'J'ai ete' (with the ' above the e in mange) and I assume to write 'I have to eat' is 'J'ai manger'.
My confusion is how do you tell the difference in speaking this as both sound the same. It is just by the context, or does' I have' as in 'I need to' use a different verb in French compared to 'I have' equating with I am holding/possessing etc?
