Answer Question
How flexible is the placement of peut-être?
I keep stumbling on a certain Level 5 flash card: "Mine(f) doesn't work anymore, so maybe we(i) could take yours (i/f)."
My answer: La mienne ne marche plus, alors peut-être on pourrait prendre la tienne.
Accepted answer: La mienne ne marche plus, alors on pourrait peut-être prendre la tienne.
Seems there are cases where peut-être can be placed either before the subject or after the auxiliary verb, but I'm wondering if either way is more common in day-to-day French. My natural tendency is to lead the sentence/phrase with peut-être, but if the other way is more common I'll work on changing my habit.
