"Aber" vs. "Doch"
As of right now, I just finished Lesson 15 from German 1. A few lessons ago, we learned "aber" for the English word "but" as in "...but there is..."
I listen to German rock almost exclusively, and from what I hear and what I translate, they use "doch" and not "aber" so I'm wondering if there is a circumstance where you use one over the other, or if one is more acceptable. Or simply if they don't introduce "doch" until later in the course.
Any help clearing this up is appreciated.
