Answer Question
ser and estar
I seem to have hit a wall with European Spanish with Level 5, lesson 24. My problem is with ser and estar especially in the past tenses and what to use in different circumstances. Is there a conjugation table somewhere on the web for these two words with clear explanations and examples as the ones in my dictionaries are not helpful. In lesson 24 L5 "write the phrase you hear" are these two lines:
"Estabamos en Paris por trabajo pero por la noche fuimos al teatro"
"Estuve en Nueva York de vacaciones y fui al teatro y a exposiciones de arte"
I'm probably missing something really obvious but why does the first line use estaba and the second estuve? Shouldn't they both use the same?
