Answer Question
The best/correct way to ask for the waiter's attention
I live in Southwest France (but, alas, can't speak French fluently as yet). We've been told it is VERY BAD FORM to call for a waiter by using the term "Garçon" - and we never hear that here. We're told the correct (?) way is to say "Monsieur" or "Madame". Apparently, once it was acceptable to call waiters "boy", but today waiting is a proud profession and it would seem they deserve (and expect) more respect.
Anyone else have any experience using "Garçon" (and still getting served???)
Jerry
