Answer Question
Words Running Together
It seems that my biggest issue so far is understanding spoken Spanish. To note: I am a very visual learner. In fact Im absorbing vocabulary spelling and grammar quickly. I can also read and write with what Ive learned so far with little to moderate effort. Where I am having trouble is picking up on the smaller auditory words with spoken spanish. In my ears so many combinations of words run together sounding like a single word no matter how many times I listen or how much I concentrate on a dialog. So far I have been able to use reasoning with the vocabulary Ive learned within the program to deduce what words I am not hearing, but; I kinda feel like I am cheating myself by doing this because the phrases are somewhat repetitive within the lessons, and frankly, my deductive reasoning fails miserably sometimes mostly due to concentrating too xxxx a single phrase while missing the rest of the sentence or dialog. I also know misinterpreting some of these smaller words, I can't hear, can potentially change the meaning of the dialog. My biggest issue are with words that end with the same letter the next word begins with. It also seems the smaller the next word is the more troublesome it is to hear.
My solutions so far have been to treat a phrase or group of words that run together in my ears as a single word. I have been writing down these phrases and studying them as vocabulary. I have also been trying to train my ears to ignore certain words that my brain will automatically que in because the subject has already been already established within a conversation so I can then focus more on phrases that don't sound right until more context is given within the dialog to figure out what Im not hearing. This method can sometimes take me way too long for a response though. I have been trying to watch TV shows/movies but I feel my vocabulary is still too limited and I really don't watch much TV. Im just hoping I will over time automatically hear these phrases If I stay ahead of this issue but sometimes I feel like Im headed towards a wall
