Answer Question
Help with past and present tense of "Levantar"
I'm on Spanish 4, lesson 2, and I'm now a bit puzzled. Sonia goes on to explain "Acostarse" as meaning "To lay down/To go to bed." She does an excellent job explaining past and present tense of this verb (Present tense: acostarse, acostarme, acostarte/Past tense: acoste, acosto, acostaste). However, when she goes on to explain "Levantarse" as meaning "To get up." this is where I get confused. She explains "I get up" as "Yo me levanto"...why wouldn't this be "Yo levantarme"...? I would think that "Yo me levanto" would be translated as "I got up", since "levanto" is the past tense of "levantar" and "got" is the past tense of "get"... Can someone explain this to me, because I'm now lost. This doesn't seem to follow the same pattern as the past and present tense of "acostar"... Also, she doesn't explain the word used in "They go to bed"...could someone tell me what the correct word would be to use in that sentence. I'm also puzzled as to why the past tense of "levantar" in the sentence "I get/got up" wouldn't be "Yo me levante". With "acostar" the word for "I went to bed" ends in the "e", however, the word for "I get/got up" ends in an "o". I hope I'm making sense here.
