Answer Question
Becoming FLUENT and Seeking Employment
I plan to apply to a new position as early as this week but my original goal was to achieve fluency in Italian and apply with that as a language skill. If I were hired with Italian proficiency as a skill then I would be travelling regularly to the country. The time has come for me to apply but I'm currently about midway through Level 5 and don't feel as though I'm anywhere near true fluency in the language. This is incredibly upsetting to me as that has been my goal for quite some time now. I'm hoping to finish the program soon but I was hoping anyone out there might have tips or experiences to share on how they became comfortable conversationally with Italian and when they felt as thought they were truly fluent. My plan is to not stop but I need to reach that level of proficiency soon and be confident in my abilities to maintain and comprehend a conversation and be confident in applying that as a skill in the workplace. How do I get to that point and when will I know I'm ready? I really just don't want to make a fool of myself right at the start of a new career. Any help would be tremendous!
