Answer Question
Improving learning using spaced repetition
First I would like to say that I love the Fluenz program in terms of content and progression. I have used French, German, Spanish (Spain) and Italian. However, to really take it to the next level, Fluenz should integrate a spaced repetition feature that keeps track of how well you know each word/phrase and helps you practice the right things at the right time. Why not call this feature Fluenz Pro and charge a small monthly fee?
My current workaround is to work through Fluenz Flashcards once for each lesson, in the english->target language mode. I usually do this a few days after doing the lesson, but if I feel the lesson may be to easy, I do the flashcards first and let the result from the flashcards session determine if I need to do the lesson or maybe watch the tutorial for clarification of some detail.
The flashcards that I answer incorrectly or answer correctly but feel that I haven’t internalized yet are entered into an Anki deck. I have one Anki deck for each language. The AwesomeTTS add-on for Anki allows me to add synthetic speech to the card. I can then rely on the Anki smartphone app to test me at optimum intervals and help me retain the knowledge, even if I should take a break from the Fluenz course.
I hope someone from the Fluenz team or the community would like to share their thoughts on spaced repetition in the Fluenz context. Thanks!
