Answer Question
How much time do you spend on a lesson?
This question is for adults who are studying Spanish (or any language I guess) without any prior experience. I am wondering how long you spend per lesson. It takes me anywhere from 2 to 3 hours on average, and occasionally longer on a challenging lesson. While studying I keep browser tabs open for Google Translate and Spanish Dictionary.com. When I am a bit confused by a word or a sentence I check it out on Google translate. When I make a mistake on a conjugation (particularly an irregular verb) I put the verb into Spanish Dictionary, hit the conjugate button and study the present and past conjunctions. I am sure this side track investigating is adding some time. I also do each lesson twice (I do the next one and then the next time go one back, leapfrogging so I never do the same one twice in a row) But I am beginning to wonder if my brain is just not wired for this (I am a left brained accountant) and therefore it is taking me more time than usual. I am not giving up and am pushing myself through this. I am currently at lesson 11 of level 4, so I will finish. Is my experience typical for older adults (I'm in my early 60's) who have never studied a new language before? Any tips for me or are there any holes in how I am approaching this?
