Answer Question
About how long until your listening skills caught up?
Just out of curiosity, for those that are new to French via Fluenz or similar methods, about how long did it take you for your listening skills to catch up to your reading and writing skills?
I seem to be able to translate quite nicely back and forth via the written word but my ear is still hearing periodic French words now and then mixed in with what sounds like someone with a swollen tongue talking. I listen to French everyday through various means (Fluenz podcasts, lesson dialog reviews, television, other pod casts, etc) and my ear is just not picking up much at all. I am about six weeks in, and loving it thus far aside from my slow listening skills. Speaking it hasn't help from what I can tell. It seems like that my listening, writing, reading, speaking are all completely compartmentalized from each other rather than over lapping.
So, for all you French learners, was the listening part slow and steady? Or maybe very slow and then you had a big break through?
Just trying to gauge where I am at and some possibilities of what I can expect.
thanks much!
