Answer Question
Destinos on PBS
My local PBS afiliate has started running two half-hour sessions of a Spanish learning program called "Destinos." It is more Rosetta Stone-like than Fluenz, and I wouldn't want to depend on it alone to learn the language. However, it has a lot of real conversation to listen to. I think it is really helping my comprehension. Basically, it is a Spanish soap opera, that is mildly interesting, with some intercessions for explanation of some new terms, etc. But it is mostly immersion. Anyway, as I said, there is a lot of conversation, at normal pace, but using somewhat elementary vocab. I have completed Fluenz Spanish 5, and I know most of the vocab they use, enough that I can pick up what I don't know. It can also be accessed from the website, learner.org, where you can buy it in DVDs for an exorbitant sum, but in fact it is available in streaming format for free on the website. There's a French version too, if you are interested.
