Hi Jane,
Unlike nouns, adjectives and articles, verbs are genderless. The word you describe -- necesita -- is a 3rd-person verb, which end in "a".
I need = you necesito
You need = tu necesitas
He/she needs = él/ellos necesita
We need = nosotros necesitamos
You all need = vosotros necesitais (in Spain Spanish only)
They need - ellos/ellas necesitan
This pattern is the same for all but irregular verbs in Spanish. Hope this clarifies the issue for you.
