Hi Jane,
Yes, it is also perfectly correct to say "Yo quiero estas" yet the meaning is slightly different:
Yo quiero estas = I want these
Yo quiero DE estas = I want (some) of these
It's a very typical Spanish expression, you don't have to say "algunas de estas", just "de estas" is enough to show that you want "some of" or "part of " such and such things..
