David,
As mentioned in the other thread, you use "Li" when the noun is singular, masculine, and begins with a consonant. You use "Lo" when:
- the singular, masculine noun begins with a "z", as in "Lo zucchero."
- the singular, masculine noun begins with an "s" followed by a consonant, as in "Lo stadio."
- the singular, masculine noun begins with a vowel, as in " L' aeroporto" or a vowel sound, as in " L' hotel." Note that "Lo" becomes contracted to " L' ".
- the singular, masculine noun begins with "ps" or "y". These are typically words brought in from other languages.
