Hi Brian; in this case, "ou" is the question word. It helps sometimes to think of "est-ce que" as "is it that." So, Qu'est-ce que je veux" is literally "what is it that I want." So, your answer would be "where is it that her cake is" which is awkward and incorrect.

Hi Brian, You're correct that your translation wouldn't be incorrect, you've followed the right order and you've spelled it correctly. However, it is probably not what a native speaker would say, it is indeed much much more common to ask "où est" + what you're looking for. Unfortunately, there's no "easy" way that works all the time with questions in French, and that's why we're teaching them one case at a time. Thanks a lot for your feedback anyway, we'll make sure the program accepts all possible answers there, on your side just keep in mind that to ask "Where is"..? the most usual order is "Où est" and keep up the good work!
