Sonia's extracurricular suggestions
On Sonia's recommendation, I read "One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez and watched the movie "Cantinflas" about Mexican comedy film star Mario Fortino Alfonso Moreno Reyes (or Mario Moreno) known professionally as Cantinflas. "One Hundred Years" was entertaining, not at all what I expected. The author had a way of mixing humor and fanciful embellishments with real social and cultural events that was fun to read - my only complaint is that the book should have been about half as long. "Cantinflas" was a great surprise - I knew nothing about him, and the film was both informative and entertaining - I highly recommend it. There is plenty of Spanish dialogue (with subtitles) in the movie to help with listening skills (but they talk soooo fast!). On both - thank you @Sonia making this a more holistic language study with those outside opportunities to learn.
