Both the "Est ce que" forms are correct. When enunciating "Est- ce que", the phrase will sound es ce que, where one is able to hear the separation between the words. The way Sonia pronounces "Est-ce que" is esce que, (esss que) is correct as well. This is used through out the French speaking world and is very similar to English contractions. It is best to pronounce "Est- ce que" as es ce que for now. Once you feel more comfortable with French you will naturally start to pronounce the "Est-ce que" as esce que.

Est-ce que is pronounced like "Ess que" (the 'ss' being a long 's' sound). Esce que is a rather bizarre pronunciation, one mainly hears such a pronunciation from politicians delivering a formal, well-articulated speech. It is not encountered in regular speech.

I think in real spoken French the "e" in the "ce" is hardly pronounced. Usually "Est-ce que" is only two syllables (es-ku). You will find that a lot of sounds drop out as you progress through the programs. This is just moving the pronunciation closer to real street French. For example, "Je ne sais pas" will be pronounced "Jen sais pas" by the time you get to French 3 or 4 Actually if you think about your own English, you will see we (or some of us) do it a lot as well.

I think we just should memorise the way french people pronounce it for instance in est -ce un banc? e in ce doent pronounce and we say es a banc? or est-ce que c'est un cahier(es ko) but in ce sont des chaises ,e should be pronounced .
