Congratulations on finishing French 1 + 2, way to go!
In regards to Quebec French vs. Parisian French. The main difference is the accent, it sounds different. The difference is something like American English and British English.
The slang is a bit different as well, you'll discover that very quickly :)

The thing about Montreal too is unlike more remote parts of Quebec everyone speaks English and the two languages are used almost interchangeably. It's honestly pretty cool how bilingual the city is. You will hear French and English in the same conversation. Almost every time I would initiate a conversation in french they will reply in english. If you want more practice with French go north up by Quebec City.
By the way, Montreal is a fantastic town. The old town is really cool. I would really recommend Quebec City.

Thanks, Peter. It's been my experience that the Quebec natives really appreciate visitors attempting to speak French, even if they do it poorly. I think they'll recognize when someone is an English speaker and switch to English right away, but they'll be extra nice because you made the effort.
And, as for Quebec City, I agree... it's a great place.

I think thats the case anywhere you. I'm deployed in the mid east right now for the military. I'm not gonna tackle learning arabic but learning some basic phrases with the locals goes a long way.

Québec French/Paris French is not like World English/American English. Québecois uses many words that are not understandable to a normal French speaker. The Québecois, however, are perfectly capable of speaking proper French. It is comparable to Swiss German and High German.

You should have no problem understanding Quebec french. Generally speaking, it is the same language with some minor differences (accent, some different words) You would face the same challenge if you were to travel to the south of France where the accent is quite different then what is spoken in the north.
