Thanks, I'll check out these two films! I am still on Italian 1 session 9 and can't follow any of the film conversation, but want to hear it spoken and pick up a few words.
Why does it seem that most of the Italian films are "chick flicks" :-) I enjoyed watching "Bread and Tulips", also streaming on Netflix. I just received Il Postino on DVD from Netflix and will watch it this weekend.

I truly loved "Life is Beautiful"…not a chick flick! Also, The Best of Youth was really good, but not available via streaming…it comes on two DVDs.

I've watched few Italian films but my favorite so far is "Cinema Paradiso". I bought the DVD and have watched it several times. Absolutely fantastic.
Be sure to watch the directors cut; the theatrical edit won the Best Foreign Film oscar in 1989 but leaves too much of the story out in my opinion.

agree with Cinema Paradiso! That kid was adorable.
Didn't see the director's cut, now I'm intrigued.

Some years ago I watched "Mediterraneo" and I loved it. It won the Best Foreign Film Oscar in 1991. Give it a try if you can find it!

Kristin, The director's cut adds another whole hour to the film. Answers all the questions between Toto and Elena.

if you're not up to the level of adult films, watching animated films in Italian is a lot of fun.. Beauty and the Beast's "Be our guest" is sung "Stia con Noi! Stia con Noi!...." and Nightmare before christmas's "What's This" (one of my favorites ever) is sung "Cos' e! Cos' e!" So cute. lol. Sometimes I'ld watch them on youtube so many times that I'd end up memorizing them and sing them on my way to work.
