They seem to not be answering some questions, Brian. Not sure why. I'll ask one about this lesson and see if we can make any headway.

In Italian, some verbs include the prepositions "to" or "for". Usually that is shown in the dictionaries. It is important to learn which do include their prepositions. For example - cercare = to look for, aspettare -to wait for.

The infinitive "pagare" includes the concept of "for" - this is the same in French.
