No longer required. We may re-require them in the future once we have a better sense of how they work/make them a more useful part of the site. For example, we feel that a major problem a lot of forums suffer from is that it can be difficult to find the content you're looking for. If we can turn tags into something super-useful for that, then we may make them required again.
Automatic Category Selection
A great idea. Will be a bit more difficult to implement than turning off the tag requirement, but should certainly be manageable. I'll try getting to it later this morning.

Ok, the automatic category selection has been implemented. Haven't tested it yet on IE, but it's working in Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. Will test in IE later today.
As always, you can still add additional categories, and you can also remove the automatically selected category if ultimately you don't want the post to go there.
