What do you think is the best way to do this? Just simply have a "quote user" button near the bottom of the post (like next to the "reply" button? That would be pretty simple to implement.
Another option would be that you can actually select part of the text of the post, and upon doing so a "quote this" button would pop up, allowing you to easily quote just sections of the post. But perhaps having to do that text selection defeats the entire purpose of a quote feature.

I've only used the first method in forums, and it's pretty easy to deal with. The second method sounds intriguing.

I think the first option is better. Having a quote button near the reply would be nice.

Both would be nice (sorry, Eric.) My experience is that quote pyramids can get out of hand with just a quote button. Users need the ability to trim quotes back down to size. If the quote button allowed they poster to trim the quote, that would work.
