This is specially true in Latin American Spanish, were we're a little bit lazier when spelling out words, so you'll hear two words spoken out quickly and they'll sound like one. There are some cases in which two words have actually become one. Like "Mi hijo" (My son) has formed a new word: "M'ijo" (You - colloquial, in some countries it has a more affective and tender tone than others).
