Why don't you just say something like: "Um, I don't know that much Italian yet but I think I can by in the following situations... can we pretend like we're ordering food in a restaurant for a minute or two?" If that's what you know, practice that, right?!? And the next time you do it, you'll know more so you can say: "I really need to practice the passato prossimo of essere today," or "let's pretend like I'm renting a car." I mean, if he's cute, you can ask him if he's single and willing to travel when you're both speaking English. :-) By the way: totes jealous of your language exchange.
