conocere vs sapere
In lesson 29 of Italian 3, there is a test of - "I don't know her, do you know who she is?" The answer was - "Non la conosco, tu sai chi `e?" I'm confused by the use of sapere in asking if the other person knows that person. It's about people, so why would you use sai instead of conosci there? I understand sapere also refers to knowledge of things, but I thought conoscere would be universal in the subject of people. Perche che `e troppo facile? Anyway, an answer to that would be greatly appreciated. I've come so far and my ear for the language has progressed rapidly and is the biggest stumbling block moving forward. tx.
