The problem was that I missed the notice about downloading specific updates for OS X Lion. The page prominently displays logos and images to choose from and drew my attention away from that text.
I deleted the Fluenz directory in the main Applications folder and ran the Fluenz French Lion Installer that is available on this page:

After copying all resources from the DVD, the Fluenz application runs just fine, and even allows me to learn without having the DVD inserted.

I'm getting this same error and have followed the steps to resolve listed above, with no luck. Very, very frustrating.

I too am getting this junk:fluent;data:italian.... message. I downloaded the correct spanish update.

I am also having the same problem with Mandarin. I have upgraded to Mountain Lion so there is the additional problem of it not being signed.

I'm getting the same issue with French. I followed all the directions carefully... Puzzled.
